Volunteer with Hospice

Without the fantastic support from volunteers, Tōtara Hospice simply wouldn’t be able to provide all the services our patients and families need.

Our volunteers make a real difference to the lives of thousands of people in our community every year. As a charity, we are truly grateful for each volunteer that brings their passion, skills and precious gift of time to Make Hospice Happen.

There are many ways to help us here at Tōtara Hospice, whether it’s working alongside the team in the Inpatient Unit, serving coffees at Café Aroha, driving patients to appointments across the community, or maybe you love retail - we have over 200 volunteers in our Hospice Charity Shops. We also are always looking for events and community appeal support. Across our services we have all types of volunteers, from hairdressers to electricians to mindfulness practitioners; volunteering opportunities are endless. We are always on the lookout for compassionate, reliable, fun people who would love to truly make a difference in their community via Hospice volunteering.

Don’t worry we will provide you with the support and advice you need to become one of our fabulous volunteers. You will receive training which will include:

  • Orientation and induction to Tōtara Hospice services, philosophy, and goals
  • On the job training to ensure you are confident in your role
  • Safety and confidentiality knowledge
  • Ongoing support as a member of the team

You will also receive:

  • Personal fulfillment: Many Volunteers speak of the happiness it brings them to help others
  • Experience for your resume: The work you do as a Hospice Volunteer is valuable experience that can help you in a future job search
