Z Takanini supports Hospice

It has been over a month since we opened Z Takanini.

During the month Z handed out to their customers tokens that they could use to vote for who they would like to support in the local area.   After counting the tokens, the Hospice received 49% of the vote which is amazing. It shows how aware the local community is of what Hospice does.

This was exactly the question Day Stay Coordinator Janine Fletcher asked her Wednesday group recently, delighting in their reaction when they finally guessed New Zealand Masterchef Champion, Nadia Lim.
Giving Back
Most guys in their early twenties are too busy hanging out with their mates on the weekends to even contemplate giving back to the community but not Stephen Wong and Edbert Wong. Every second Sunday night you’ll find them volunteering at Hospice South Auckland, something the two friends have been doing since December 2008. Stephen says training to be a doctor motivated him to volunteer.

Community Service Recognised
Hospice stalwart, John Savory, was recently awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship (the highest award a Rotarian can achieve) for his outstanding service and general contribution to the community.

Totara House was transformed to a film set recently when AUT Bachelor of Communications student Zane McLarin (accompanied by his film crew) created a short video clip for Hospice South Auckland.

Wine Makers Lunch Sep 2011
Hospice supporters, Rotarians, Masterchef winner Nadia Lim and former 1987 World Champion All Blacks Alan Whetton and Bernie McCahill were all in great form at the Wine Makers Lunch on Sunday 14 August.

The Family Support Service at Hospice South Auckland provides counselling and social work support, but they also provide other services you may not be aware of.
