Hospice Team

The Trust Board

The South Auckland Hospice Charitable Trust is managed by an 8 member Board of Trustees.

Chief Executive Officer

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the overall control, management and direction of the Hospice programme in accordance with the policies as determined by the Board of Trustees.

Medical Staff

The medical team at South Auckland Hospice includes Palliative Care Consultants and Senior Palliative Care Medical Officers. Together with the nursing team our doctors provide expertise in managing all aspects of your medical care including symptom and pain control to enhance your quality of life.

Nursing Team

Led by the Director of Nursing, a team of Registered Nurses with specialist palliative care qualifications are employed to provide a comprehensive hospice service in the community and at Totara Lodge.

Family Support Services

Incorporating Grief Councelling, Bereavement Councelling, Social Work & Spiritual Care. This service offers support and/or counselling to patients and families in both one to one and group situations. Patients and family members are invited to request this support through their nurse or doctor, or by phoning the hospice directly. A social worker is available to assist with social issues.

Resource Manager

The Resource Manager is responsible for the financial support from within the Community, Philanthropic Charitable Trusts and Events to ensure the ongoing viability of the Hospice Service.

Manager Retail Services

Our retail Services Manager co-ordinates and managers seven retail outlets staffed by over 200 volunteers.

Manager Volunteer Services

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for recruitment, training and co-ordination of a large number of volunteers who assist in all aspects of our hospice service.

Support Staff

The hospice care-giving team is supported by a number of people whose role it is to maintain the efficient administration of the hospice. These include the administrative, secretarial, maintenance and domestic personnel.

Professional Development and Research

To ensure care of patients and families is of the highest calibre as we aim for best practice in interdisciplinary team work, Hospice South Auckland encourages and supports staff to achieve their needs in education and development underpinned by research. As a specialist palliative care provider, education for practitioners from organisations we liaise with is an important part of the service.
