Family SupportBereavement CounsellingBecause terminal illness leaves no part of life untouched, and can place considerable strain on all who are part of it, patients and families can find it helpful to access the various support services hospice offers. Counselling support both during and following the time of illness is an important part of the care we offer to patients and their famililies including special counselling for children. This can be in a one to one relationship with one of the counsellors either in your home or at the hospice. It can be through a supportive relationship with one of the volunteers who work alongside the counsellors, or it can be as a member of one of the support groups which are run at regular intervals throughout the year. Spiritual CareTimes of crisis often challenge the beliefs we hold about how life should be, and it can be helpful to share these challenges with another. There are people available who are trained in spiritual care. Patients are also welcome to have someone from their own faith community support them while they are at Totara Lodge. Staff are also willing to liaise with representatives from the various faith communities in the area. If you have any questions about how best to access spiritual support please ask your nurse. Social ServicesA qualified Social Worker is available to assist patients and families with social requirements.
