Challenging Events
On Daffodil Day 2009, Papakura resident Latalia Bent shaved her head to raise funds in honour of her stepfather Collin Selman, who passed away at Hospice South Auckland in May of this year.
With her work colleagues from ASB Insurance Services ‘right behind her,’ she has raised $1,200 and is still fundraising after the fact! Some of the money raised will be donated towards the Valerie Vili Rose Garden project for a retaining block sponsored in honour of Collin. Latalia says “With no family in New Zealand, dealing with my stepfather’s sickness was the hardest thing my mother and I had to go through. At the age of 55 it never crossed my mind that he would be taken away so soon. The Hospice was a blessing, the support they provide is truly amazing and the staff are wonderful and caring.
This is my little contribution, in loving memory of my step-father and to support the hospice that supported us” Latalia adds, “To all the men out there: please have yourself checked regularly, prostate cancer is taking the men we love”.
