Volunteer Awareness Week
Volunteer Awareness Week provides New Zealanders with a chance to acknowledge the excellent work done by our many volunteers and discover opportunities to get involved in their communities.
Volunteers have always had a high profile at Hospice South Auckland and they are an integral part of our service, making a vital contribution to Hospice care in our area. Their roles are many and varied, but they share a common commitment to Hospice and a willingness to contribute to the community in which they live. Volunteer Awareness Week is a great time for first-timers to give volunteering for Hospice a go - whether it be lending a hand in our shops, gardens, support group, special fundraising or with clerical tasks. Care giving roles include driving, sitting with a patient at home to provide time out for relatives, helping in our in-patient unit and at day stay: recording a patient’s biography or working as part of our bereavement service. The number of different voluntary roles available is vast, so there is something for everyone! Anyone can be a volunteer - no matter their age, race or gender. To find out more about some of the volunteering opportunities available, visit www.hospice.co.nz or call 640 0025.
