Hospice Shops
Caring for Patients through Fundraising
Many people think that Hospice Shops are merely 2nd hand clothing stores but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Our shops are permanent fundraising activities. Every item we sell raises much needed money that is directly channelled back to Hospice in order to deliver care to our patients. TRUE - our shops’ sales come mainly from sales of 2nd hand clothing.…you could even say that clothing is our ‘bread and butter’. But we need more than that to achieve the levels of income that we need to continue offering our services to the community. We are in need of all sorts of ‘other’ items to sell in our shops. Mostly what we refer to as ‘bric a brac’ but constitutes a wide variety of things. Here are some examples of stock that we desperately need to fill our shelves:
• Kitchenware - including pots, pans, dinnerware, appliances… anything for the kitchen really!; • Decorative items such as vases, lamps, picture frames - the sorts of things that make a house a home; • Games, toys, cd’s records, puzzles, sporting equipment - what we would refer to as the ‘fun stuff’; • Jewellery, watches, bracelets, rings - now we all have some piece of jewellery hidden in our bedside table that we don’t wear anymore don’t we?; • Electrical appliances. By donating that old TV or VCR downstairs in the spare room that nobody watches anymore, you could be donating over $100 to Hospice…. think about it like that; • Furniture of any kind from beds, mattresses, chairs, tables - you name it, we can sell it!
So in your rush to spring clean this new year, take a look around (and not just in your wardrobe!) for some items that you no longer want or use that are just gathering dust. We can turn them into first class care for the terminally ill and remove one more item to dust from your home!
