Alex Green 1932-2008
We acknowledge with grateful thanks the life of Vice Patron Alex Green who passed away on 3 September.
Alex initially joined Hospice to assist in raising funds, mainly through his corporate contacts. He was appointed to the Hospice South Auckland Trust Board in 1988 and became its Chairman in 1990. Alex held a part time role of Executive Chairman until 1992. He resigned from the Trust in 1996 and became a Vice Patron in 2000. Alex Green B.Sc(Hons), ANZIM was a former General Marketing Manager for NZ Steel, a trade & marketing consultant and a resident of South Auckland for over 20 years. Alex did much to raise the profile of hospice at government and business level and with community trusts in the Auckland area. He took on a regional role as Foundation Chairman of the Hospices of Auckland Association and continued his interest and involvement in Hospices of New Zealand until his death at Mercy Hospice. Alex will be warmly remembered for the interest he took in our patients and families, staff and volunteers, and for his caring and compassion.
