Congratulations Valerie - You're a star!
An especially loud cheer rang out from the Hospice team when Valerie Vili stepped up at Beijing and laid down a challenge no other shot putter in her class on earth could match.
It was a stunning performance, and one that we have already sent our congratulations to Valerie on - both as an inspiring athlete from our region and as a long standing friend of Hospice South Auckland since spending quite some time with our team while her mother Lilika Ngauamo, who passed away in 2000, was in our care. We were very moved to learn that following her win Valerie not only paid tribute to her mother, in whose honour she dedicated her Gold, but that she also acknowledged the work of the Hospice team. It was a special gesture that we hugely appreciate. One commentator summed up Valerie’s record throw as expressing perfectly the “Spirit of the Olympics.” We couldn’t agree more. We are delighted to join with the rest of the community in thanking Valerie for doing us all so proud!
