Turning pre – loved goods into first class care! Hospice shops generate a very important revenue stream to help fund the patient care we provide in South Auckland
For 2008/09 we will need to raise approximately $2.8 million from the community, that’s - $7,761 per day! And we will be looking to our shops to contribute about one-third of this. This is a real challenge – but one we just have to meet as we face increasing patient numbers, deserved increases in remuneration for our nursing and medical staff, and overall increases in staffing levels. The retail shops are a critical element of our operation and we are hugely grateful to the very many volunteers who help run them and ensure that most of the income is available for patient care and the on-going operation of Hospice. With this in mind it has become clear that our two biggest challenges are having enough stock to meet the demand and enough volunteers who are able to give their time to work in the shops. As with so many areas of Hospice we rely on our community for both. So we would very much welcome hearing from you if you have items to donate or are even able to join us for a few hours a week helping in the shops. We also encourage you to tell your friends and family about how they can help. It is always impressive when you visit a Hospice shop to see the tremendous effort that goes into making them a success by volunteers who give so freely of their time. It is also great to hear how rewarding and enjoyable volunteers tell us that being involved is for them. To have your donated goods collected or to apply to become a volunteer in one of our shops all you need to do is phone 268 8260 and we will forward your call on to the appropriate person. When donating goods, please ensure that all goods are clean, are in working order and above all have value as this minimises our dumping charges. If you have only a small bag or box of goods to donate you may also prefer to simply drop them off to your nearest shop – we would be glad to receive them!
