Whakawhanaungatanga Orientation to a Family Carer Programme
If you are caring for someone who has a life-limiting illness, you may be interested in our 'LINKS' Orientation to a Family Carer Programme.
The aim of this programme is to support and empower the carer, in order to meet the needs of caring for a loved one at home and provides an opportunity for carers to share their experiences with others in the programme.
Our free, 4 week programme will run once a week at Totara Lodge, between 1:30 - 3:30pm.
Afternoon tea is provided at the end of each weekly session.
The programme offers informal education and advice. Some of the topics covered are: - What is Palliative Care?
- Physical Issues of Care
- Self Care
- Practicalities
- Nursing Advice
- Strategies for Coping
- Massage
- Information regarding Wills and Funeral Planning
- Income Support and Social Issues

Volunteers Also Needed We are looking to recruit volunteer companions as part of the program. They will take time be with the person being cared for while their carer attends this program. If you would like to offer your help in this way please call Robyn as well.
