Volunteering Week June 20-27

There is an emphasis in this newsletter on volunteering. We value our volunteers and take time to celebrate milestones. Hospice South Auckland has almost 500 volunteers at any one time. They help in so many ways.

  • In-Patient Unit Volunteers help with the many light household tasks assisting staff to provide a hospitality service second to none
  • Community Home visitors (Companions) allow carers to take time out for personal things or to participate in programs such as Links (see separate story)
  • Day Stay volunteers host patients at the day stay program
  • Complementary therapists such as Reiki practitioners and massage therapists provide additional services
  • Patient Drivers, who make sure patients are able to get to appointments or to Day Stay
  • Biographers who help people write their life story
  • Retail Staff for Hospice Shops
  • Fundraising and Events.

Volunteers provide valuable help in raising the funds needed to keep hospice free for all patients.
Hospice Volunteers provide almost 100,000 hours of voluntary work each year. Without this help, we would not be able to provide the range of services we do.

For information about volunteering please call Chris Keeling or Sally Stansfield on 09 640 0025
